Re: Feedback to: Textpattern CMS 4.2.0 Release Candidate: Help us test!
I just got multi-site functionality working on Media Temple’s Grid Server. It took about me 20 minutes or so.

Very nice the Remora theme.
I believe a “Logged in as username” at the bottom (same as in Classic theme) would be useful.

[OT {a little}] The ‘Development 4.0.x/dev branch’ link on the right side on textpattern.com/weblog/ is broken and throws a 404. I’d recommend the dev homepage http://code.google.com/p/textpattern/ link.

Cool, could you post a brief tutorial here or in the (mt) forums?

Re: Feedback to: Textpattern CMS 4.2.0 Release Candidate: Help us test!
Maybe it has been discussed before, in that case sorry, but I don’t understand why the field that lets you pick a theme is an input type=text rather than a select.
Also, I translated the few new entries for the main interface, but I don’t see where “Assign user’s content to” could be used. It says it’s under “admin”, but can’t find it there. Maybe an upcoming feature?
Aside for these two minor reports, I think the RC is fantastic. Thanks a bunch, TXP Team! :)
EDIT:
Oh, and “ham”! :D

That label says “Mail comments to author?”.

Great news! I think I’m about to test it… many many thanks to the dev team, including also our emeritus developer, Ruud Van Melick.

It’s for when you delete a user.

It is a select. In 4.2.0’s early development stages, it was a text input. Maybe your testing site has received an update back then, so the current update will have no incentive to update the setting once again. Try a fresh install.
I don’t see where “Assign user’s content to” could be used.

Just upgrading TXP Tips to 4.2.0. Maybe its a good idea to include instructions in the readme.txt file with regards to the /sites folder?

Upgraded TXP Tips and all looks good…thanks to the TXP Devs! Quick question – is it necessary to change/adjust the Time Zone preference? Its blank by default. I think I missed any discussion on this when it went into SVN.

Simply set the timezone to the proper value. Any city in your timezone will fit.
Depending on your trust in us you might even allow your site to adjust DST (CEST/CET) automagically. Come October 25th…

Re: Feedback to: Textpattern CMS 4.2.0 Release Candidate: Help us test!
all looks great so far, thanx!
like REMORA a lot, i had been using an svn-version before to get an impression.
i usually make minor adjustments to the admin-interface to customize it according to a clients CI/typography, i therefore add the following at the end of /textpattern/theme/remora/textpattern.css, maybe somebody else will find this useful:
/* ***** custom styles ***** */
#article-tabs ul
{ display: none; } /* switches off HTML-PREVIEW tab */
body, input, textarea, select, h1, h2, h3, h3.plain
{ font-family: "Lucida Grande", Tahoma, Verdana, Arial, sans-serif; } /* changes ALL fonts */
code, .code
{ font: 1em Monaco, "Andale Mono", "Courier New", monospace; } /* smaller code font face for better editing */
input.cancel, input.delete, input.interbox, input.interbox2, input.navbox, input.preview, input.smallbox, input.smallerbox, input.smallerboxsp, select, input.edit, input.list, textarea
{ border: 1px solid #DDD; } /* plain or custom form border */
#masthead
{ background: #FFCC33 url(dropshadow.gif) repeat-x left top; } /* can be used for custom images, logo, color on masthead */
#messagepane
{ background: white url(dropshadow.gif) repeat-x left -60px; }
#nav
{ background: transparent url(../classic/textpattern.gif) no-repeat -60px center; }

Re: Feedback to: Textpattern CMS 4.2.0 Release Candidate: Help us test!
Hi Robert
When I try to create a same login user name than an existant one (i.e. “admin”) I’ve got this mysql warning message on the top of the page:
Warning: Duplicate entry 'admin' for key 2 insert into txp_users set privs = 2, name = 'admin', email = 'email.addressgmail.com’, RealName = ‘Tester’, nonce = ‘c5052946d22f4387d85a6ca1d534db2a’, pass = password(lower(‘m5q9xb’)) in /home/users4/c/main-domain/www/domain/textpattern/lib/txplib_db.php on line 85@
Not a “real” problem for me but seems not very professional for migrated WP 2.9 users :)).
Is it difficult to add a kind of warning into the $message?
Here is a screen play
In your very beautiful remora theme you play with jQuery. Why don’t you create this kind of animation. WP users will be surprised!
Cheers

In general, multi-site capabilities are currently built for people who know their way around their server’s O/S. We’ll address the remaining fraction of the population in a future release.
Possibly I don’t qualify :) Just trying out a multi-site setup on my Dreamhost shared hosting account, where to be honest I don’t know if the “Specify your web directory” setting is identical to adding a virtual host. Test site seems to work, but I get numerous diagnostics errors about missing files etc. Normal, or have I set it up incorrectly?
Edit: Arghh, I definitely don’t qualify. I tried my Dreamhost account first, figuring it’d be easy to get multi-site working locally. But no luck yet on the local install either …

OK, gotcha, thank you Robert, I’ll try a fresh install. IIRC, the previous version of TXP I was running wasn’t a beta or RC. It was just a plain 4.0.8. No complaining or anything, just reporting back. :)

Thanks!
Another tiny report: I see logs are recording hits on feed URLs, such as /rss. It this by design?
