In The Word Ministries

I don’t post much of my work here because it’s pretty straightforward stuff, but I thought I few might be interested in the new site for In The Word Ministries, which uses some pretty sweet Textpattern magic. A few notables:

  • Gallery page uses the mighty smd_gallery integrated with Shadowbox, which I have found to be a most painless solution for presenting data (any data) in a floating frame.
  • The Products (and some registerable events) use the soon-to-be mighty yab_shop for a front-end PayPal shopping cart interface. I’ve been beta testing this plugin since version 5 something, and the development effort behind it is incredible. Hats off to Trenc.
  • The podcast section uses an7_audio plugin for loading MP3s. None are there right now, but they will be soon. A very small and effective solution for loading audio in a page.
  • Just a bucket of custom schema work with glz_custom_fields and sed_section_fields, which allowed me to create significant template triggers based on simple dropdown options in the Write screen.

That’s it. Questions / comments welcome, as always.

Re: In The Word Ministries

Nice looking site there sir. Glad you find smd_gallery useful. One thing with the gallery (it’s a shadowbox ‘feature’ and is the only thing that bugs me about it) is the caption along the top: long captions disappear under some portrait images, and large galleries have too many page numbers beneath the picture so the numbers overwrite the << and >>. Some of them on the right hand side become uncklickable as they somehow interfere with the background/other nav elements.

Try viewing the site with a browser set to 1280×768 (my little widescreen laptop’s max res, unfortunately) and look at image #22 (16.jpg) on the 2008 KCWC page to see what I mean.

But other than that it’s pretty sweet. Clean navigation, logical, well laid out content which is easy to find stuff. Good work.

Don’t know about the content, seriously not for me, but the design is beautiful and fits well with the content :-)

Yes, I know, but I consider it collateral damage. Clients insists on vertical pics.

And to be clear, I used this Shadowbox script with smd_gallery, which works wonderfully.
