I really think we need another subforum called “plugin archive” or “outdated plugins” as we have topics for plugins from 2004. My view is that those threads should not be buried in the generic Archive

As long as we don’t have another subforum, could we flag them as [outdated] or [archived]? Is what I did here acceptable? (flag [archived], add a notice, and close the thread)
If we get the subforum, we can easily locate the threads to move them.

Re: orphan plugins

If no one minds, I removed the [orphan] flag from the MLP thread. Yesterday I already added a notice that the plugin is adopted… we don’t want to confuse people ;)

Re: orphan plugins

I am starting to redefine orphan plugins. I think that plugins which are

  • no longer available by their authors
  • Superseded by a native tag or another plugin

should be marked as [archived]. What does everyone think about it?

Re: orphan plugins

No, not yet. The new thread was only meant to announce the adoption, and to find more plugin authors who want to participate in MLP’s development. The intention is that txpforge.org will be used for bug reports and feature requests, and the forum thread will be for support questions. When Graeme is ready we’ll probably open an new thread and close the old one.

Yes, that seems right to me. I’ve been doing that already to a couple of old threads you hadn’t flagged yet.
Maybe when we’ve finished this we should add a sticky post to explain the flags?

yes… That would be good.

I am also closing the [archived] topics. If anything, it will also stop spammers posting in long forgotten outdated threads.

Re: orphan plugins

Hi

Why dzd_counter_view is mentionned as orphan plugin?

I modified the wiki and put Supproted on it.

It s a simple plugin that did a simple job, but is still working! or am i missing something?

Re: orphan plugins

I don’t see an [orphan] flag? Must have been a temporary slip of the keyboard ;)

Edit: ah, you meant in Textbook? It’s not marked as an orphan on the forum.

Re: orphan plugins

I think that I went through them all according to these parameters:

  • All plugins with an author whose last post here was a year ago were marked as [orphan].
  • All plugins which I could not find an available download link I marked as [archived] and closed the topic if the last post in the thread was older than one year.
  • All plugins whose functionality can now be achieved with native tags I marked as [archived] and closed the topic

I’m sure that you might find mistakes, and/or typos in there. Let me know if you don’t have enough forum privileges to correct them

Conclusion:

  • I found that it was interesting how some authors although not currently active in this forum kept their txp sites and their plugins on line. Some are there since 2005.
  • Some plugins showed no activity in their threads for over a year but – speaking from own experience this is sometimes the case when the plugin just seamlessly works as per its description.
  • There are a number of orphan plugins which would be greatly missed by a lot of members from this community if they are not adopted. Namely, plugins by osei, rob sable, benbruce, zem’s to mention just a few.

Textpattern.org is a great site but I am wondering if it would be a good idea if it could also act as a repository for the actual plugins. I found that in a large number of threads people are just asking for an alternative way to get the plugin as the download links are dead.

FYI: There’s a ransom on right now (almost filled) to get this plugin back and with many improvements check it out here
