All Textpattern site links dead, article not showing up on front page

Hi all,

I am very new to Textpattern, having decided to try it out for a new blog last night. It installed fine and I put up a premade theme which I was planning on customizing, but I’m having some problems with my articles not displaying and site-wide links not working.

The site URL is http://www.k9cyclers.com

I wrote a new article in a section I created called ‘overview’. But for some reason my article isn’t showing up on my main page. Also, when I try to view the article by clicking ‘view’ from the editor I get a ‘page not found’ error. I also get the same error when clicking on any link within my site, including the original article that was pre-posted with my Textpattern installation (which can be seen from the front page). I’ve been perusing Google for help as to why all links seem to be dead, but haven’t been able to find anything. Can anyone provide any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,

- Liza

It could be that your server does not accept clean urls. Go to preferences and change that to messy.

Your article can actually be viewed on http://www.k9cyclers.com/index.php?id=1

Re: All Textpattern site links dead, article not showing up on front page

Thanks for the suggestion. I wonder why it’s viewable at that URL if my preferences are set to /section/id/title.
I changed to messy URLs and the default front page article now displays fine when clicked and so can the sidebar links. Thank you :)
I wish there was a way I could change it to still display article names and such in the URL, better for SEO. I guess if that’s the only way I’ll deal with it!

Now there’s just that other problem I’m having with the article I wrote for the ‘overview’ section not displaying on the front page. It’s also in the ‘overview’ category and when I click on that category in the sidebar the article isn’t shown there either. When I click on ‘view’ in the edit section it now takes me to a proper page instead of saying ‘page not found’, but the content section is blank. This is the URL:
http://www.k9cyclers.com/index.php?id=2

Sorry about the newbie questions :( I’ve been using WordPress for all of my other sites and am floundering here. Good thing I’m a fairly quick learner :)

Re: All Textpattern site links dead, article not showing up on front page

Update: I just changed the status of that post that wasn’t appearing from ‘sticky’ to ‘live’ and now it’s showing up fine. I had thought that ‘sticky’ meant that it would appear and stay on top of the section page, but I guess not :)

I am now trying to figure out why links that are meant to be at the top, in the header, aren’t showing up. I’d be happy with putting in manual links but I can’t figure out what the URLs to the sections are >.<

Re: All Textpattern site links dead, article not showing up on front page

It looks like you have got your article problem sorted :)

For the links to the sections – have a look at http://textpattern.net/wiki/index.php?title=section_list

This outputs links to all sections, or selected sections and you apply the style to the tag

I’m not sure if you already have seen this, but I always keep the Tag Reference open when building textpattern sites – it usually answers most of my problems :)

If it doesn’t – there is nearly always a plugin at Textpattern Resources to sort it out.

Re: All Textpattern site links dead, article not showing up on front page

Ah that seems to have worked, thanks so much!
The theme I was using is meant to have displayed the sections in the header. It had the following code in it before:
<txp:ako_nav name="Home,Archive,Overview,Contact" url="/,/archive,/overview,/contact" headlvl="1" headon="0" divon="0" classtag="1"/>

I used the link you specified and the header now looks like this:
@<!— Header ======================================= —>
<div id=“header”><div>
<h1>K9 Cyclers</h1>

<txp:section_list sections=“Overview,Archive,Contact” break=“li” wraptag=“ul” />
<txp:ako_nav name=“Home,Archive,Overview,Contact” url=”/,/archive,/overview,/contact” headlvl=“1” headon=“0” divon=“0” classtag=“1”/>
</div></div>@

I’m not sure why, but I can’t remove the original line of code that was there – it messes up the page. So it looks like I need both the original code and the added on code for them to be displayed. I guess as long as it works I’m happy though :) Thank you!

Re: All Textpattern site links dead, article not showing up on front page

The original code is from a plugin: http://textpattern.org/plugins/158/ako_nav

I’ve never used it – so can’t help – but it could be worth a look :)
