Microblogging with Textpattern
just doing a bit of research and i’m interested to know of any new trends with microblogging and txp. i know of asv_tumblelog and kimili’s twitter plugin, but beyond that i don’t know much. i also haven’t seen a site powered by asv_tumblelog yet.
i’ve also stumbled across Sweetcron which looks like a great project but i dont think it’s meant to run inside textpattern.
there was a thread about TXP and the iPhone but i don’t think anything has happened with that yet.are there any other tools people are working on to help you post things quicker?

Re: Microblogging with Textpattern
Microblogging is the active part of publishing ‘micro content’. Some prefer ‘micro messaging’.
I think you are talking mainly about publishing a lifestream. asv_tumblelog ist the tool to publish multiple RSS feeds to TXP. Each feed item is published as one article. asv_tumblelog works quite good so far but is pretty rough around the edges eg:
- There is no feature yet to import delicious.com tags as keywords.
- asv_tumblelog imports feed items with ‘no textile’ formatting which makes sense but is not very user friendly if you need to edit your items.
- The preferences are duplicated at a lot of places on the admin side.
The main point against asv_tumblelog is in my opinion that the author published the solution as is and is not very responsive on the forum.
For completeness: asv_tumblelog also does not use the APIs offered by many of the different services.
If you only want to show dynamic RSS feed content the SimplePie plug-in offers an easy way to do so.
If you want to use all the whistles and bells SimplePie hast to offer eg multi-feed publishing you must dive into the SimplePie PHP itself. It’s worth it and it is easy!
I am using asv_tumblelog to show off my delicious.com entries as TXP articles but I am strongly missing the tags (For tag management in TXP I use the feature rich plug-in tru_tags).
- sankt-georg.info/sammlung is my asv_tumblelog collection of bookmarks. I started this after d.com switched to 1,000 characters per description and because of the great add-on for Firefox.
- To use the extended TXP features you will have to post as draft and enhance the articles in Textpattern (keywords, individual URL, etc.).
- news.sankt-georg.info is my personal and local news stand realized via Gregarius.
Sweetcron is a great and very reduced complete solution to publish your lifestream from different RSS feed sources. The charme is the missing complexity of a CMS solution. Sweetcron is very easy to handle for that specific purpose. It can be integrated into a TXP website via sub-domain or sub-folder as a parallel publishing platform only (AFAIK).
Depending on what you want to achieve there are many other feed aggregators and reblogging solutions out there. I have collected some bookmarks:
Textpattern out of the box doesn’t play an active role in this field if we talk about collecting feeds into articles. But a dynamic presentation of actual feeds is easily accomplished via SimplePie.

Thanks! Go ahead and please come back with your solution(s)!
Oh, and check out the FriendFeed features and how to add/compile that aggregated lifestream maybe via asv_tumblelog.
