Password protected section(s) for sales materials etc.
Hi,
I know that it’s possible to password protect articles but is there a good way to
protect full sections of the site?
I noticed this information on the main site for textpattern:
“ Password-protect site sections, or even specific articles “
That gave me some hope that it might be possible to achieve.
I would need to be able to make certain sections of the site password protected and they’d contain
sales materials etc. There wouldn’t need to be any big amount of users / passwords but i’d hope that the
materials would be at least somewhat protected for outside access.
If it’s impossible do you have any other good suggestions how to achieve this? I could always use htaccess for certain folders (wouldn’t even need to be a
Textpattern side inside it) but i’m not fond of the Htaccess login box ;)

Sorry … i just got the search working and managed find some info about “ ign_password_protect” plugin.
I will look into that. Still if anyone has any other opinions on the subject i’d be glad to hear them!

It is also possible to use
I have used it to restrict access to some sections of the site. Not as elegant as a true “customer login box” though. It prompts for user/pass when it is read from for example a page template.

Re: Password protected section(s) for sales materials etc.
Thanks! That sounds like a simpler way of doing it but i noticed that there’s the problem
when one messes with the URL’s. I guess the tag should be added to all posts then and i don’t know what other problems that would give.
I’m currently looking into plugin and one problem i noticed is that i’d like to make some users (and not use the alternative userdata base to hold them but just the textpattern user database) but the way it’s set up, i’d have to use some real (my own e-mail) addresses and then change them to nonexistent e-mail addresses to be able to add them thru admin panel.
But i guess that isn’t too bad considering… if it’s the only “downside” there is.
I just want a few logins and be able to make sure that normal visitors are unable to see the protected section(s) content.

I just checked the “use alternate database” setting and will try that out.
I’m just worried that if it’s not as safe that way…
