Breadcrumbs that use current or active category?

Is there a way to leave a breadcrumb trail that shows the the active category?

The plugins that I have found only allow you to specify category 1,2, or 0.

What I am interested in is displaying the actual path that the user traveled. Any ideas on creating a self aware breadcrumb trail?

Re: Breadcrumbs that use current or active category?

what do you mean exactly by “actual path”? Do you mean an article can have 2 categories, but the breadcrumb would display the last- visited one of those 2?

Re: Breadcrumbs that use current or active category?

I’d be interested to hear responses to this too. My solution until now has been to save the category the user clicks on to a cookie using chs_cookie, then to conditionally display the category saved to the cookie if the cookie exists (the plugin provides the relevant conditionals) else show category1. You’ll need to try it out in your specific situation – I also found it necessary to reset the cookie at the entry page. If you think this is interesting I can root out the code I used for this.

I wondered whether that would work now with the new txp:variable, but I don’t know if such variables are ‘per user’, i.e. if several visitors are surfing at once it will be overwritten by the movements of one or the other.
