[request] FCKeditor WYSIWYG
FCKeditor
FCKeditor licensing agreement.
Integration step by step
How hard would it be to make a Textpattern plugin for this WYSIWYG editor?
When I looked at the code for hak_tinymice it looked very complex but checking out the code used for Wordpress to integrate FCKeditor it seemed a lot simpler?

Re: [request] FCKeditor WYSIWYG
The complication with integrating TinyMCE comes from keeping track and reacting to the different input formatting modes (textile, convert line breaks) since the editor cannot register itself as an input mode of it’s own. That and there were some issues with the preview tab that needed to be worked around that I don’t know if they are present anymore.
The actual part that makes TinyMCE work is pretty simple.
You would probably want to use the javascript integration vs the PHP one in order to not have to hack the core, at least from how I understand the php integration working.

Re: [request] FCKeditor WYSIWYG
Thank you for your reply Patrick, and for your suggestion of using javascript integration.
I think it would be beneficial for the textpattern community, particularly for their clients to have a near fully fledged editor like FCKeditor, of course the issue is someone has to have the know how, time and inclination to create a FCKeditor plugin for TXP, which I assume would integrate with Xpattern.
Frustratingly I don’t have the skills , but actively using links suggested by Anatomy of a Textpattern Plugin to learn how to make them.

Just out of curiosity what does FCKeditor offer that TinyMCE doesn’t?
I looked at it a long time ago when I was looking for a wysiwig for my old employer (which is what resulted in the hak_tinyMCE plugin) and I didn’t like it as much as TinyMCE but I haven’t kept up with it.

Re: [request] FCKeditor WYSIWYG
FCKeditor appears to have more functions, and I find the placing of images in an article easier. All the added functions may make it even more complex to add it to Textpattern that is something I don’t know. I personally like Textile, but I am really thinking of clients.

From a Textpattern Web Designer“s point of view using Textile or Tiny Mice is great, I was looking at it from a clients perspective who may be more familiar with Text editors used by say Auctiva (Ebay) and feel more comfortable with FCKeditor.
I also realise that the User interface of the write area would need redesigning from fixed to fluid.
From a Web Designers, SEO perspective Textpattern is Number 1. I think clients would find FCKeditor easier to use, of course I could be mistaken.

Don’t take the minimal toolbar that hak_tinyMCE provides by default as an indication of what tinyMCE can do. That selection is there really for historical reasons for compatibility with mic_tinymce which was the original tinymce integration. I’ll have to take a look at how FCK does image insertion as that is all custom and needs to be rewritten for tinyMCE 3 anyway.
This is no slam on FCK, having more than one editor plugin is a good thing.
