Ventum Group (Website Analysis and Consultancy)

Greetings everyone. It’s been awhile since I posted any new work in this forum, but I would like to highlight my latest site for Ventum Group, which is a new company I am soft-launching. The focus is not on website design, but rather detailed analysis using my own proprietary methods, as well as ongoing research about the web design and development industry. There’s not a ton of content up there right now, but it’s my basecamp for entering the market and I will expand as more work comes online.

I started developing this in 4.0.6 but just migrated to 4.0.7 before going live. 4.0.7 is rocking my socks; I’ve already implemented a couple new tags.

Plugins Used

  • glz_custom_fields
  • lam_accordion_section
  • Postmaster
  • rah_sitemap
  • rss_admin_db_manager
  • rvm_if_this_article (this will soon be replaced by native 4.0.7 functionality)
  • sed_section_fields
  • zem_contact_reborn

Minor Highlights

  • Postmaster is a phenomenal plugin. I’ve used it before for some client work, but this is the first time I have implemented it on a personal site and I continually find myself impressed. I’m using plain subscription fields (found in the persistent right column), a dedicated subscription management page as well as integrating it with the general contact form. So far, so good.
  • I implemented slimbox on the Organic SEO Analysis page using some custom fields. I tried smd_slimbox but the functionality just was not flexible enough. (Great plugin though; have used it eslewhere.)
  • Using a lot of zem_contact_reborn. Of course on the contact page and in the persistent right column, but also on the two longer forms in the contribute section. Amazing flexibility and styling potential.

Anyway

Please feel free to subscribe to the newsletter. Also, if you are interested in participating in future research projects and would like your name added to my list for surveys and whatnot, please send me your info. I am looking for both those in the web design and development field as well as business owners and site managers who are more client-side.

And if you have any comments about the design, or run into any display issues, please let me know. Thanks!

Thanks for sharing this – it’s always good to see what the big boys are up to ;-)

Even the plugins list is useful to me (Although my big _un_happiness with 4.0.7 has been with a plugin no longer working which was alive and well in 4.0.6)

Love this, Kevin.

Since I looked I’ve been pulling my hair out trying to figure out how you’ve implemented the nested/drop-down left hand menu – I would really find that useful on one of my sites.

Great job.

While this is not exactly what I used, perhaps this recent article on TXPtips.com can help.

I am also happy to post the code I used for that particular site, but it is not very elegant because it is not truly dynamic — section names and such are hard-coded.
