[wiki] textbook no longer on google?
I noticed that since the upgrade of textbook, it no longer shows up on google search results. before, if i searched for any textpattern tag name, textbook would always be among the first results, but not anymore.
I wonder if this is because of the url scheme, or what’s up…

Yes, ideally, old entries (= old URLs that are still working but now are just empty articles) should be redirected.
If you search for a Textpattern tag on Google, it will probably show up an old URL on the results.
Is it easy to add redirects on MediaWiki?

used to be that old urls showed up, but now they’re not.
even searching for “textpattern textbook” turns up textbook way in the back.
hopefully it’s just a matter of time

They aren’t indexed due to these meta-tags in the HTML head section of those pages:
<meta name="robots" content="noindex" />
<meta name="robots" content="nofollow" />

Re: [wiki] textbook no longer on google?
I did not bother with redirecting pages because:
- It would have been yet another mountain of time on top of all the architecture changes made (and yet to be made),
- it’s not only just redirects, but permanently removed pages too,
- as the_ghost pointed out, google will quickly catch up, and
- I wanted to encourage people to fix bookmarks in blogs, this forum, etc..rather than relying on a bunch of redirected but misleading URLs.
As for the meta tags, that’s NOT intentional. It’s an artifact of the dev site I created the skin in (which of course I did not want indexed) and I failed to catch it when moving. Sorry for that. I’ll fix it immediately and Google will do it’s thing. This is nothing to lose sleep over. Anybody who uses TextBook knows how to find the Tag Reference.
Ed. The offending meta tags have been removed. Their absence, if I’m not mistaken, is the default equivalent to saying “follow, index.” Correct me if I’m wrong.

Re: [wiki] textbook no longer on google?
I was away the last several days in Paris with my wife (our anniversary). My absence and Patrick’s opacity (that’s not negative) makes me think to bring something up…
Both Patrick and myself have said on more than one occasion that TextBook is happy to take on another admin to help with the general good upkeep of things. It’s also made clear right on TextBook’s About page. So far, nobody has piped up, but you can imagine a greater likelihood of this being dealt with on the 27th (when Kemie posted), or maybe even after the skin first went live, and we could have avoided seeing pointless comments like “What the fuck?” :)
