Sort Sections

Is there a way or plugin that will allow me to sort the order in which my sections are displayed? I do not want to have to manually add/edit the <txp:section_list section_name=”*” /> tag. There should be an input field that allows me to choose the order sections are displayed base on the numerical weight that I’ve given to it.

Re: Sort Sections

Do you mean you don’t want to do this:

<txp:section_list sections="section3,section1,section2,section7" />

In that case the only way is to change your section names, e.g. 01-firstsection, 02-secondsection etcetera.

Re: Sort Sections

What Els suggests.

This is something I, too, miss sometimes: a sort attribute for sections and categories, like we have for links.

Edit: that should read sort value and not -attribute.

Re: Sort Sections

Martin, there is a sort attribute :) It’s just that the possible values are not very helpful.

Edit: sorry, I realize you probably meant a sort field ;)

Re: Sort Sections

Ooops, I actually meant Sort Value as it’s called in the Links tab – sigh, me and terminology ;-)

Yes, that might work except that the number prefix will show up in the URL, e.g., http://example.com/01-about/.

I’m surprised that this basic functionality doesn’t already exist. Does anyone know if this feature will be added to Textpattern 4.0.7?

Re: Sort Sections

Too late for 4.0.7, but perhaps in 4.0.8. For sections that would require a complete rewrite of the sections tab to avoid making it even more messy than it currently is (IMHO).

That would be very nice :)
