[contrib] The Future Of Textpattern!
Hi, I was recently at the WordCamp SF meet-up, and I was amazed at the community and business intellect surrounding WordPress as a Platform! I personally see WordPress to be a weaker CMS than Textpattern in many areas, apart from its almost astounding evangelism it has somehow created around itself. People are really buzzed up about using it, talking about it, sharing ideas, and the team behind it love showing it off!
The purpose of this topic, is that I think Txp needs some sort of restructuring. At the moment it feels like the old Mozilla, only certain people know about it, and only certain people are gonna download it and use it. WordPress has become what the modern Mozilla is, hip, fun, and totally professional looking and aiming at a World Wide Audience.
It would be awesome if we could really make Txp into more of a community thing, like having meetups, getting more people involved in developing the core, and making Txp into more of a platform, instead of just a tool a few select people might download.
Who actually owns Txp? Who owns the Txp websites? And who runs the Txp websites?

Textpattern is released under the GPL. The copyright of the code and other contributions like i18n texts is owned by the respective contributors. The “Textpattern Trademark” would apparently be the intellectual property of Dean C. Allen.

Good question. What constitutes ownership of a website?
And who runs the Txp websites?
textpattern.com is run by the developers. textpattern.org is run by Alicson et al. textpattern.net is run by Hakjoon/Destry.

funny :)
but the guy has a point (which, i’m sure has been brought up ad naeseum)
I’ve used WP and I can’t believe the marketing hype that people buy into from the CMS standpoint. It really goes to show that you truly can hype up an okay product.
Look forward to the day when TXP’s online brand identity is just as good.
