Which plugins will become aimless with 4.0.7? Which will be included?

I see that TXP 4.0.7 will have some brand new features like tags and, I hope, a template management core.
So, what will be the plugins that will become aimless? I’m thinking about tags, specifically: asy_wondertag will be inside the new release of TXP or the tags engine will work in a different way?

Some of the plugins that the TXP community has shown to love (like Zem’s Contact, Mary’s image popper, Steve’s ones and so on…) will be included?

No. See HISTORY.txt for changes.

As jm said, no – there is the zen, remember it. Including too many features is just too much: overbloating. If TXP got useful plugins that make things happen, and even perfectly, then why should those features be included in the core? No reason, ‘cause ppl need different functionalities.

And because TXP itself can’t fill all functionalities, we have plugins. Plugins can fill all those wholes, when core can’t. Or the core could, but what it then becomes? Too huge. Extensions are great, a plugin based TXP is even greater.

But things that open different things are needed and those are helpful for the core. Like the new parser, it’s improvement, not just blasting something random “we want”-things to the core.

Candyman,

  • Follow jm’s link and catch up with what will be in 4.0.7.
  • Remember the words Gocom posted above: “because TXP itself can’t fill all functionalities, we have plugins”.

Nothing to see here people – move along…

I looked at the history file and I did not see tags listed. With there be some type of article tagging function?

  • New tag: <txp:rsd /> specifies the Really Simple Discovery endpoint for XML-RPC clients
  • New tag: <txp:variable />
  • New tag: <txp:if_variable>
  • New tags: <txp:if_first_section>, <txp:if_last_section>
  • New tags: <txp:if_first_category>, <txp:if_last_category>

jm, I think Matt talked about “tagging” articles, so he talks about (unlimited) categories, not txp tags.

O.k. So tagging will still be left to plugins. What about unlimited categories? Plugin as well or built into txp?

I’m just curious because I’m redesigning a site right now and I’m looking at tagging and using more that 2 categories.

Thanks all. I really appreciate the insight.

Definitely looking forward to the flexibility of the new tags in 4.0.7.

Thus, the mark left plugins. What is it with unlimited categories? Plugin and constructed or Txp?
I am just because I’m curious, a new website for the moment, and I am on the search and identification with the help of more than 3 categories.
