Re: Zem's worst nightmare
How can earning a solid income from one of the planet’s most discussed pieces of software be a nightmare? I’d rather judge this as a place with ample room for a creative mind targetting continous improvements. 29 Mio USD VC funding is both a commercial blessing and a burden with respect to the target roadmap, expected update cycles &c. pp.

Wet, pick up the phone, Matt is calling ;)
Seriously, you’ve got to admit that as of late, it’s been a security nightmare over at Wordpress.org. I’m glad I run solid web apps on my server, they may not have all the bells and whistles, but I sleep well at night.
Wordpress 2.1 came out on January 22, 2007, since then, there have been 14 releases, almost 1 a month.

Well, actually, he’s writing.

This is what VC investors obviously expect from their CEO/CIO/CTO – why else would one apparently reduce quality control to a bare minimum ?

Can’t say I follow Wordpress that closely, if I ran their software and saw this, I’d be really pissed off.
I attribute it to the fact that they aren’t hurting for users at this point, so producing a quality Open Source product is not that important anymore, it’s maintaining the users they do have at Wordpress.com.

That’s kinda what I was thinking, even without the words in parenthesis (mine).
Alex works for .com, not the open source software available at .org (he only just recently had one small feature added to the .org code base by Matt, passing through several hands). The direction the WordPress software goes isn’t in anyway directed or even really influenced by him, unless he’s had new responsibilities taken on since I last spoke with him.

Alex working for only .com is news to me, so nightmare is not the proper word then, my apologies.

We aren’t using textpattern much at the shop I work at. What do we use for most of our clients? Wordpress of course. One of the big issues is RPC support and a wordpress site is so much easier to set up and for a client to run.
I will personally rarely use textpattern for any site unless I need some serious customization. But for blogs, etc…Wordpress is it. That is unless textpattern becomes much easier to install, theme, rpc, etc.

Matt, RPC is included in 4.0.7
What makes installing TXP difficult?

Oh for heaven’s sake, I imagine Zem’s worst nightmare, like mine has something to do with not having studied for finals and walking in to the examination room naked.
I don’t do religion any more. “Wordpress for people who like wordpress. Windows for winheads. Macs for Macheads. Boxers for that breezy feelin’.”
