[feedback] Problem on textpattern.com with IE8
Hi all.
I’d noticed a problem on the main txp website with MS IE8 (but not with MS IE7) : the footer logo comes into the header. I suggest to add this meta :
<meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=7" />
and the problem will never occur.
Best regards,
Patrick.

Isn’t IE8 still in beta?
If this still occurs in the final version, I’d prefer to fix the problem, instead of suppressing a symptom.

Hi ruud :)
Ok I understand. But do you prefer to stay until IE8 will be a final version (perhaps in one year) or fix the problem now and change it after? In my opinion, this situation could be a very bad promotional view of your (our) prefered CMS ;)
Best regards ruud,
Patrick.

No, I’m just saying it doesn’t make sense to fix stuff that will quite likely be fixed in the next beta version. Once IE8 approaches release and has decent release candidate, only then does it make sense to fix this. The number of people using IE8 is very small (relatively speaking) if I look at browser market shares.
If everybody forces IE8 into IE7 compatibility mode, then nobody will see and fix the bugs.

Ok. Ruud. And now can you tell us when the next TXP 4.0.7 release candidate will be occur? ;)
Cause TXP is most important than IE8 for all :) :) :)
Best regards,
Patrick.

The whole issue of version targeting has been rather controversial.
On March 3, 2008, Dean Hachamovitch announced that Microsoft had changed their minds, opting instead to make the IE8 standards mode (now called “standards mode”) the default in IE8 (i.e., pages with doctypes that trigger standards mode in IE7 as well as newer doctypes).18 Version targeting would still be present but now would be used to opt-out of progressive development and use the IE7 standards mode. While this move was praised by many of the same people who had criticised Microsoft’s original choice, including Microsoft’s competitors,26 the subsequent release of Internet Explorer 8 Beta 1 revealed that many web sites do not work in this new standards mode.
It’s hard to bug-fix a moving target, where Microsoft is changing its mind from one release to the next.

Looks like IE8 has a problem with <br style="clear: both" />
. I was tempted to file a bug report, but you’d have to jump through hoops to do so, and so I wandered on…
