The Txp admin

I think the Textpattern admin screen is over-complex and messy, wouldn’t something like this:

suit it better? x

“Over-complex and messy”. Looks like all that changes is swapping tabs for dropdowns (which do like nice) and making the background a gross grey.

I don’t agree.

The current interface has a very clear, 2-level hierarchy reflected in which tabs are highlighted. This is lost in your mockup.
I also prefer the centered, 3-column layout of the current write screen. It feels more focused, but that’s entirely personal.

I’m curious though, why is it mostly fairly new members that come up with suggestions on how the admin interface should look? Is it perhaps because they haven’t been using it long enough to appreciate its strengths? ;-)

Mary, masa – fwiw, in case you didn’t see it – this is double posted. The other thread has the main conversation.

Personally, I agree w/ masa that the 2-level hierarchy gives a clear visual cue where you are. There are benefits to that, and I suppose multiple ways to accomplish the visual cue.

I mostly agree w/ Mary on the gray. I agree in that I don’t think its very attractive (personal opinion). I do see the visual goal of causing the write areas to “pop” and be the focal point as a a nice touch.
