Admin Area - Hiding sections from users

Hello all.

Is there a way to hide certain sections in the “sections dropdown” on the write tab?

I need to create some sections that only publishers can see in the dropdown.
I don’t care if they are visible in the “sections” tab…just not in the dropdown.

Is this already possible via a plugin?

Any ideas on how I could make this happen?

Re: Admin Area - Hiding sections from users

I’m currently developing a plugin, that makes the write tab fully customisable and even gives the possibilty to have an own “write” tab on a per section basis. It is a paid work and in testing right now.

Perhaps you want to wait 1 or 2 weeks for this to be released…

Re: Admin Area - Hiding sections from users

I forgot to say, that sed_section_fields is also able to hide sections…

Yeah. I seem to be having some conflict with it…so I can’t install it on this site.

Just out of curiosity, which conflicts? I’m asking because I use it all the way and I’d like to prevent any possible future problems.
Thanks

Re: Admin Area - Hiding sections from users

I’m not quite sure yet. I have it installed and working on other sites…but I installed on this site and it didn’t work.
I didn’t really need it, so I just shut it off. I’ll look into it a bit more and report back.

Tom

Care to post to the sed_section_fields thread and I’ll try to sort it out for you. My plugin should be able to do what you’re asking for already; if it can’t, I’d like to fix it so it can.

Thanks!

Re: Admin Area - Hiding sections from users

Thanks Steve,

I didn’t want to post anything until I’m sure that is not “user-error”.

Could very well be.

Have to repeat myself time and again recommending wet_plugout for conflict testing!

In bad weather I never leave home without wet_plugout, smd_where_used and adi_form_links

Re: Admin Area - Hiding sections from users

Uli,

Thanks for the heads up…That’s the first I’ve heard of it.
That’s a real life saver.

I have sed_section_fields working now.
The install was still 4.0.5 (Just slipped by me that I hadn’t updated this site)
I updated to 4.0.6 – re-installed sed_section_fields – and all is well.

Gremlins be gone!

chriloi,
Still looking forward to seeing what you are cooking up.

Re: Admin Area - Hiding sections from users

i was in need of something like this a while ago and cooked up my own solution, it takes a list of users, hardcoded in the plugin and specify which sections these users are allowed to see (which is in my case only one section). let me know if this is what you’re after…
