English admin interface, another reader interface?
Hello,
I am hoping to make the jump from WP to TP but I have an issue to make clear beforehand. I am fluent in English and Turkish, but my site’s other admin has no knowledge of Turkish. What we are wondering is whether it is possible for us to have the admin interface in English and present the site (reader interface) in Turkish? I am thinking that we’ll have to do some manual editing with specific language files to pick out what appears on a reader’s screen and what on admin-interface. Am I right with this one? Now I have to ask whether this would cause any problems with Turkish characters: ğ, ü, ş, ı, ö, ç ? Do you think we should give this a try? I am guessing there won’t be many elements to translate other than comments, tags, categories, sections, and a few more? Yes? No?
Many thanks for the help and input.
Cheers.

Re: English admin interface, another reader interface?
There is already a turkish translation of the (admin) language file.
Turkish characters are no problem at all if you use UTF8 for your pages. (German has ü and ö as well and it works great!)
Maybe there will be several minimal translations to be done (f.i. when using comments or date format entries), of course depending on what you want to display on the reader’s side of your page, but in general there will be no big problems to realize what you’re intending to do.
Welcome to TXP! :)

Re: English admin interface, another reader interface?
All text items, used in the admin interface as well as on the front end, are in the language files, that upon installation are loaded into the database. I have done what you want to do for quite a while: I just installed English, and manually changed the text items that appear on the public side to Dutch. It’s not that there are many of them, but 1. you’ll have to find them and 2. on every update your changes will be overwritten so you’ll have to do it all again ;) You can either make the changes in the database table, or in the file and then install the language from the file.
An alternative way might be the MLP pack.
