Article lockdown and authentication

Greetings,

I’m looking to migrate our online magazine presence (http://www.the-american-interest.com) to Textpattern. The current site has been hand-coded by me in ColdFusion, but is a pain for me to maintain as web development is not my main skill nor my main task at the job I’m in. Transitioning the site to Textpattern doesn’t seem to be too difficult overall.

However, I have almost zero PHP experience, and would like to hire a developer to help me code some features into the site:

1) Most articles need to be locked down (only teaser available) with access granted to subscribers only.
2) Some articles should be completely free.
3) Subscribers log in and authenticate against an external database at our fulfillment company’s site.
4) Users can buy access to individual articles (simple online store).

The priority for me is 1-3, but after that’s done, I’d like the developer to help me with 4 as well.
