Early setup error

I have just registered a new domain and I am trying to install textpattern for the site. I successfully created a mySQL database (my first time doing so) and copied the contents of the textpattern folder to my [domain]/blog directory. When I go to blog/textpattern/setup as instructed, I enter the database information and click next, then I get this error:

Checking database connection…

Warning: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Can’t connect to local MySQL server through socket ‘/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock’ (2) in /usr/local/pem/vhosts/153528/webspace/httpdocs/blog/textpattern/setup/index.php on line 178

Can’t connect to database

I have messed around with the database info in the setup prompt but it seems anything I enter yields the same error. I have no idea what’s causing it or how to fix it. Any ideas?

Re: Early setup error

update: I am reading http://textpattern.com/faq/231/how-do-i-create-a-mysql-database and double checking my info.

MySQL login: u1057565_admin (the only user i have for the database)
MySQL password: this is correct (my password)
MySQL server: localhost (I don’t think I need to change this?)
MySQL database: db1057565_txp (the only database i have created)
table prefix: empty
site url: [domain]/blog, which is where i extracted the textpattern files

the other database info my host gives me is
internal hostname
external hostname
host port
