Any advice
Having recently switched blogs I have been searching for a new type, Textpattern seems very fresh and lightweight, could any of you advise me on what makes this particular blogging tool so good over the others.

well- maybe because it is not just a blog tool.
Check out the collection of sites on welovetxp.com and txpmag.com/all_sites as it will give you an idea of what is possible.
