show individual artical staying on paginated article list?

hello, I need to have a paginated list of articles.
each page will contain, say, 10 articles and then a ‘newer’ or ‘older’ to go to ?pg=2 et cetera.
now, I would like to be able to display the full article next to the article list and highlight the link relative to the current article in the list.

the desired result is then that, say, clicking on the article ‘my cat’ which is displayed in the list at page 2 I am able to end up on a page which, next to page 2 list of articles, displays the content of ‘my cat’.

I think the problem is that on an individual article page I would be able to output the list of articles but not in sync with the article (i.e. the list wouldn’t display page 2 if the article belongs there but page 1).

is there a solution?

thank you

It’s definitely not possible with plain TXP, and I’m not sure there is a plugin that can do it. But you might want to look into smd_if.

Re: show individual artical staying on paginated article list?

hello els,

thanks for your reply. I knew smd_if but I was not sure about how to implement this.
as far as I can see, even in messy url mode, the returned url for the individual article is of the kind: mysite.com/url-title what I should achieve would be being able to go from mysite.com/?page=2 where I display the list of articles to mysite.com/?page=2/url-title where the article appears next to that same list of articles.

the point, in my eyes, seems to be that ?page=2. how can I call a list of articles paginated by, say, ten articles from within the individual article page?
the article page should be made aware of what was the starting point, I mean from which page you are trying to access the individual article page (in short it should be context-sensitive to the path you are linking to the article from).

any idea?!

thanks in advance.

Hmm… I don’t know smd_if, just had the impression it could do a lot of things ;) I suppose it can’t hurt to ask Stef if it could do this.

And what about chs_if_urlvar?

But even if there is a way to do it, what if visitors land directly on an individual article page?

Re: show individual artical staying on paginated article list?

yes, that’s right.
I’m not really in favor of this thing. I’m putting together something for somebody and he asked for the site to behave like that…
moreover… the articles will show up in paginated lists arranged either by category or by date.
that means each article can show up in two different ‘list contexts’.
maybe setting a cooky relative to the last viewed list…
I’m not a big fan of cookies, though.
