Article Sorting: Title

I am hoping someone has had to do a similar task. I have a list of articles. The titles are the actual author’s name (ie John Smith; Sue Sampson etc). I am using article_custom and sorting the articles by title.

My problem is that I would like to sort the articles alphabetically by LAST name, but allow my client to input the articles “first then last name.” I am trying to make the back end admin as easy as possible for this client.

any and all suggestions would be appreciated.

If I did not say it before, this message board, the assistance that I have received from others, and the willingness of people to share their ideas is great. Although TXP is great, the message board and community support take it to another level in my book.

Would it be too much trouble for your client to enter the last name in a custom field? Then you could sort by that field.

Thanks for quick response. I thought of that, I was just trying to make it as streamilined as possible. I am shooting for one step, instead of two. My goal is simplicity for the client. Shall I dare to say “idiot proof”

I was hoping there was some php magic out there or something else that could accomplish this …

Re: Article Sorting: Title

There probably is. I remember seeing once some php that stripped the and a from titles, so it must be possible to strip the first word. Now all you need to do is wait for a coder… :)
