Apostrophes in comments can cause them to not display, again
OK I previously posted on this and my thread got moved to “Previous troubles”, now I got it so I can write down exactly what happened.
1. My post already had one comment.
2. I left a comment saying
“Yeah, I pity the foo’…”
Saved OK
3. Go back to site front, comments for that post still show as 1.
4. Here is the post that only shows one comment.
http://brianna.modernthings.org/article/57/commons-poty-results
5. Under the Comments tab my comment shows there with no visible sign of problems. (ie the“Message” is the same as what I typed in)
If I go into edit the comment it shows this.
<p>Yeah, I pity the foo’…</p>
I don’t know what TXP is doing but it is somehow blocking the comment (and any further ones on that post) from showing or being counted. smart quotes suck.
OMG…TXP is weird. I clicked “edit” on the comment to see the raw “message” and then clicked back, and I changed the production state in the preferences from Live to Testing to see if I would notice any error messages, and then when I reload… hello… comment! No problems.
Super weird.
Note that whatever it is, the forum also does it. I did a preview on this post.
It shows the preview like this (removing underscores)
<p>Yeah, I pity the foo_&#_8_2_1_7;&_#_8_2_3_0;_</p>
and that is indeed what I copied into the text box. but now in the textbox, it has actually changed it from that into the smartapostrophe and the elipsis. although the html <p> tags didn’t disappear.
This makes me strongly suspicious that it is a textile bug.
or I’m going extremely mad. hard to say at this point.

In general, I don’t like that Textile (?) turns three dots into an elipsis and so on with dashes and quote marks. I wish there was a preference to have all that stuff just left alone.

Well, three dots are an elipsis…
With the forum, that’s nothing to do with Textile, but with (X)HTML.
I have the feeling this has nothing to do with Textile. What settings do you have for:
- Send “Last-Modified” header?
- New comment means site updated?
