Apostrophes in comments can cause them to not display

Hi,

I have periodic problems with comments on posts on my blog. Textpattern 4.0.5 and relevant plugins might be (but are probably not) ajw_comments_feed, ajw_comment_alt, ajw_comment_num .

The problem comes when someone posts some character TXP doesn’t like. In the last case it was an apostrophe. I don’t know if the person used a smart apostrophe or what… next time I notice it I will copy down whatever character it is.

Then, that comment will display on the single post, but no comments after that one will display, and it also kills the comment count on the main page in txp:comments_invite . txp:comments_invite will show nothing – as if there was no comments.

To fix the problem, I have to go to the Comments tab and find the comment, and replace the seemingly escaped character (like ၵ or whaterver number), with a plain apostrophe or whatever was supposed to be there. After I save it the following comments show up, and the comment count works.

I am a bit surprised I can’t find this problem reported by anyone else…
It is particularly annoying because you don’t necessarily realise there is a problem, unless you look at the page and go ‘hey – where’s the comment I just made??’.

Any thoughts?

thanks,
Brianna

That’s rather bizarre, I had never heard of that one before. I’ll try replicating this problem later, but do keep us updated (preferably with a copy of the entire rendered HTML).
