Xerox Exchange

We’ve got a new site up that the client says they’re officially launching at 1pm CST today.

…but, it’s already up, of course:

Re: Xerox Exchange

Nice site. :)

Just that I thought the body font was a little small and light. (Using firefox on mac) Considering that your target audiences are usually busy corporate people (who are typically old and have poor eyesight :P ), I thought the body font should be a little bigger.

Just my two cents though. Good to see commercial work using txp, though out of curiosity if you don’t mind, I wonder what made you decide to use txp out of so many cms-es (the more well known, typically used ones) ?

Don’t get me wrong, I love txp, just like to know your thoughts, in case I ever need to convince my own people. (Also may be thinking to work on a pro-txp site in future)

Re: Xerox Exchange

Ummm…actually we were sub-contracted on the job, so they came to us already asking if we were “good” at Textpattern.

We said “duh” ;)

Honestly, we would have liked to custom-roll the site using cakePHP, but the situation didn’t allow us to.

Re: Xerox Exchange

p.s. We were in charge of implementation only. IA & Design were done elsewhere.

Re: Xerox Exchange

Sure looks good and nice colours and contrast. It was at first extremely slow in responding (from Germany, DSL 6000) showing me the beach ball every few seconds. I wondered if it was my computer and closed down everything else running. Suddenly the movie sprang into action, just after I had shut down iTunes. Coincidence or was itunes blocking it?

Otherwise, particularly without the movie, I was a bit at a loss as to what I could expect from the site. The article overview is a little reminiscent of file repositories, I’m guessing intentionally so. The subjects seem to vary considerably, so I wasn’t sure what the differentiation was – I guess that will even out as content gets added. I like your little “helpful?” and share buttons – how did you realise them? The calender looks nice and clear too. Is that zem_event or how did you realise it?

Text size for the articles is at the absolute absolute minimum (Safari 3 on Leopard), any smaller and the characters would dissolve entirely! It makes for a more even overall appearance and you can get more on the start page, but at what sacrifice for readability?

(Small typo in “uncertainty” in bottom legend of graphic for “Creating viable innovations”).

Finally, congrats on the big name client. The branding is certainly a departure from the previous, so much so that at first I was not sure that it was the same company.

Re: Xerox Exchange

Hello Walker,

Yes, nice looking site — I just can’t read it at the default size. Guess I’m old and have poor eyesight now. When I bump it up in Firefox, even just one level, the banner graphic starts to show some misalignment (pushed down by the text above it).

Re: Xerox Exchange

New plugin called wlk_helpful. I’ll be releasing it as soon as I can make a more “generic” version.

The calender looks nice and clear too. Is that zem_event or how did you realise it?

Correct. zem_event

(Small typo in “uncertainty” in bottom legend of graphic for “Creating viable innovations”).

The client’s PR dept. and PR firm are in charge of the content (including the graphics) so I’m certain the site will start to show more and more validation errors and typos as it ages (and as happens with any site as the amount of content grows).

Finally, congrats on the big name client. The branding is certainly a departure from the previous, so much so that at first I was not sure that it was the same company.

Thanks. And yes, same company.

Re: Xerox Exchange

The site exposes non-canonical URLs, e.g. this page (with www.) links here (without www.). Are these two Txp instances or any other host-dependent magic?

Re: Xerox Exchange

They are absolutely not. Thanks for pointing that out. I switched Textpattern’s config option.

Re: Xerox Exchange

I know it’s not part of your work on the site, but for interest here’s some opinion on the new xerox logo on BrandNew. To those from the (former) Commonwealth states, the ball may also resemble a cricket ball :-)
