Textpattern as a wiki?
We all know that TxP is very versatile, and a good example of non-standard use is Ben’s TxP Phorum.
So I’m wondering about using Textpattern as a basic wiki?
I don’t claim to know an enormous amount about the workings of wikis, but it seems to me with some creative thinking it might work…
Am I missing something obvious?

This is as close as we have got so far as I know Neil. Having said that the link no longer works and if you go to Marshall’s site and look through “Projects” he no longer lists it. Whether it is still available or not I couldn’t say.
Were you wanting to do something wiki-like or just thinking out loud?

Thanks Stuart – I’m half serious about it, if only because I have a need to set up a facility like a wiki at my office, which is staffed largely by people barely capable of writing Word docs and downloading email. Hence the need for something simple to use…

Word?? You should be using OpenOffice Neil. There’s even a portable version you can fit onto a memory stick. Great for taking work home with you. ;)
Try getting in touch with Marshall through his site and see if he still has the plug-in/hack available. Judging by the date of that thread there’s a good chance that it may not work with today’s version but you never know. If he knows there is interest he might look at updating it. If not, if the files are available, shoot them over to me and I’ll have a look though you should remember that I ain’t no coder.

Neil,
There’s less effort in teaching your staff to use a Wiki, than there is in making TxP a wiki like engine.
The wiki I use, DokuWiki, is pretty easy to setup and use. For entering text, it has a gui like toolbar that applies the correct syntax to highlighted text. A few days of playing around with it and you’ll find that it’s no harder to use than a text editor. The administration side lets you manage users, control access to pages, manage plugins and of course configure it’s daily operation.
The reason I’m replying in this thread is not to make a pitch for a web app, it’s because I had similar thoughts many years back. I wanted to use my CMS of choice for anything and everything, I even built a whole docs site from the official html documentation. Yes, I proved my theory that it could be done, but it was a bit of a pain to maintain and there was little participation. Eventually I caved in and moved the html docs to a wiki with the help of an OpenOffice macro, the time to setup and populate the wiki was but a fraction of what it had taken me to create the CMS based docs site, not to mention that it was far easier to maintain afterwards.

I hear what you’re saying Bert… I guess I was looking for an easier way. ;-)
I have looked at Docuwiki and agree it’s one of the easier wiki’s to use… I’ll plug away and see how it goes.
Might take Stuart’s suggestion though and see if Marshall still has the code around.
