Comments slowing individual page loads
Hope somebody knows what’s happening here. Whenever I enable comments to the site I’m developing, it slows down the individual pageloads tremendously. It appears that it is calling the database for comments, of which there currently are none, before loading the page. When comments are off for a post, the loading is snappy.
I have tried removing parts of the comment form such as the help and remember checkbox, but there is no difference. This is happening on a site I am building locally and a site that is running on a remote web server.
Any ideas on how to improve performance are greatly appreciated.
I amaze myself with my inability to grasp simple concepts.

Re: Comments slowing individual page loads
go to your admin preferences and remove the spam blacklist url (sbl.spamhaus.org). that place seems to be hiccuping a lot.

Maybe this should be a FAQ. Quite a lot of posts about it…

Re: Comments slowing individual page loads
Any other details that should be there?
By the way, anyone know why this is happening, as I’ve seen it on some non-Joyent (TextDrive) servers?

Re: Comments slowing individual page loads
Perhaps because TXP appears to be doing a denial of service attack by querying the blacklists on each visit to a page that contains a comment form, even if no-one is actually trying to submit a comment :)
Might be a good idea to check the blacklist only right before saving the comment or remove the entire blacklist check, because I somehow doubt that using an blacklist aimed at fighting email spam helps to fight comment spam.
