Just a thought regarding the addition of the ‘.’ at the end of the dns entry — and I don’t know if the number of use-cases will warrant any action on it but…
Should textpattern sanitize (ie: add any missing periods) the user-entered dns entries on the admin > prefs > advanced page to avoid possible future false positives?
Places that most people enter this kind of stuff don’t need the final period, only folks who work with dns stuff might remember it.

Neither those patches, nor the trailing dot is needed in TXP 4.0.5+.
This was only an issue in TXP 4.0.4.
