This is terrible, I know . . .
I’m installing textpattern in a /blog directory of my root folder, and I FTP’ed all the files and folders to the location, but when I continue with the directions and try to go to the /blog/textpattern/ path in a web browser for setup, I get a 403 Forbidden page saying I have to log in to get to it . . . am I missing something?

Did you also upload .htaccess? It is not always visible in the FTP client, but there must be a setting somewhere ‘show hidden files’ or something like that.

Yea, I read through that whole page, and I tried transferring .htaccess but it won’t show up on the server . . . I tried finding a hidden file option but no go . . . any ideas?

Either upload it using the server’s control panel, or create an empty file named .htaccess, and paste the contents in it. (See also this FAQ.)

You should find a hidden file option in your ftp client.

Basic questions…
- Are you using a mac (I am assuming you do, as macs make files which start with a
.invisible.) If you are using a mac check this out as it might help. - Which ftp client are you using?
