Problem with positioning a line in IE and Sections not showing up!

Hello,

Here is my page

I have 4 questions.

1. The thin vertical line which divides the two parts of the page aligns well with the top of the orange boxes (‘news’ and ‘about’) in Firefox and Safari, but in IE it moves down the page and to the right, overlapping the ‘contact’ box. How can I fix this?

2. I have created a new section called sec_nakedshout, however when I try and view it at http://www.daikurebayashi.com/textpattern/sec_naked shout or http://www.daikurebayashi.com/textpattern/textpattern/sec_naked nothing is there. I’m sure this is something dumb on my behalf.

3. My diagnostics is giving me the result: .htaccess file is missing ? /home/daikureb/public_html/textpattern/textpattern/setup/ still exists ?
Clean URL test failed. ?

Will any of these be causing a problem? (Also: is .htaccess necessary because I don’t think I removed it? also; what is clean URL?)

4. if I want to move my whole textpattern site up one level in the site directories so users will find it at www.daikurebayashi.com rather than www.daikurebayashi.com/textpattern – is this simple enough to do? or should I just place a forwarder on www.daikurebayashi.com/index.html ?

Many thanks to all
Dai

Re: Problem with positioning a line in IE and Sections not showing up!

1) looks fine to me in ie6

2) see # 3

3) yes .htaccess is necessary if you want clean urls to work (example of clean url : http://siteurl.com/section/title compared to messy url: http://siteurl.com/index.php?s=section&id=34). depending on your windows/mac configuration you might not be able to see files with no filename. also you should delete the ‘setup’ directory for security reasons

4) definitely do not just forward. but yes pretty simple to move

Re: Problem with positioning a line in IE and Sections not showing up!

Thanks,
I was using IE 5.2
Is there a way of doing it, or a workaround that will be more reliable cross all browser versions?

I have now switched to “messy” urls, so what is the correct path to sec_nakedshout now that I’ve done this?

thanks!

The url at messy is http://www.daikurebayashi.com/textpattern/?s=sec_nakedshout

You will need the .httaccess file if you want to use clean urls – if your host even supports them. And Windows Servers are quite afful what comes to the supporting of clean urls.

Cheers!
