textdrive shared hosting

Anyone running commercial sites off textdrive shared hosting?

Says in the text drive forum they don’t recommend shared hosting for commercial/business sites but ive been using it for mine. I had some problems with downtime a while back but it seems to be getting better.
Most of my clients wouldn’t pay for the next level up accelerator accounts.
Im reaching my limit of sites and am thinking about getting another 25 site package but dont know.

what do you all think?

Re: textdrive shared hosting

If you host mail as well, well, no spam filters on there until they sort out this IronPorts thing on Shared Accelerators. So, I guess you’ll need to explain to your clients why they get loads of spam and stuff evert day.

Last month Jason said that making IronPorts work on SA is just a day of work, but we’re still waiting.

As for hosting sites, I totally recommend TXD Joyent Shared.

Re: textdrive shared hosting

I run a few (10-15). “Johnson” was really bad unfulfilled requests (you get a nice white screen) for a while, and I had to move them all to “bolinas”.

Great people… stuff to sort out.

Funny this got brought up. I got a call from a client today about this problem, who was trying his best to contain himself.

How are you handling the email on the sites your running there Mrdale?

Am I going to have to tell my client to dish out loads for a spam filter server to be set up. Or can you reccomend a place to host his mail somewhere else?
This is a new problem for me…. Im all ears…

Re: textdrive shared hosting

Gmail has IMAP as of yesterday. Gmail has excellent spam filers. route your client’s email through gmail host your site at joyent.

Failing this… you can do the hokey-pokey with gmail, ie…

  1. personvariation@yourdomain.com is set to forward (and not deliver locally) to…
  2. person@gmail.com which is set to forward to (and archive) …
  3. person@yourdomain.com the final destination

This works pretty well but you have to do it for everyone…
