Highlighting the current article in a list

Hi guys, I have a specific problem, let me illustrate.

On a site I am building I have a menu that is basically an article list. (The screen on the top, illustrates the “all inactive” state)

Now take a look at the screen on the bottom. That’s when the user is on the “participants” section and I add a class active to the list item elements via the if_section tag. The problem is that I need to go a level deeper and add that same class to the article title as well.

Any ideas on how to achieve this? This is one of the problems I keep having time and time again.
