Request : subscribe to comment plugin ?
Hi,
not sure if it’s the proper place to post, but since it concerns a plugin I presumed it would.
The title is clear enough I presume… I found such a plugin for WordPress, and as I’m in the process of switching from blogger to either WP or TP, I was willing to get the info to make a fair move.
Maybe such a plugin already exists, although using the Forum’s search didn’t help much.

This is something I’d like to see as well :)

I would also be interested in either a plugin or (if Dean will do it) a modification to the feeds so that there can be a RSS or Atom feed per article with comments (and maybe trackbacks or whatever Dean was planning)…

Re: Request : subscribe to comment plugin ?
I finally moved to WP. I liked TP very much, found it slightly faster than WP, loved the fact that it was much smaller (in Ko) than the latter, liked the design of the interface, but I had to make a choice.
As I said earlier, the ability to subscribe to comments was crucial to make my decision. I had not enough feedback on the comment to let me be assured this will be done in a near future.
Cheers.

Re: Request : subscribe to comment plugin ?
All that we would need is a additional table to relate email to comment id and a plugin to interface with the comments page.
I could start work on this, however, I would like to make sure Dean would pass the implementation on to the new version.
Thanks!!

Re: Request : subscribe to comment plugin ?
Ok I can see a great need for this and have run into situations several times where this would be good. But rather than integrating email (which requires extra database tables) why not just integrate per-article RSS feeds? Check out molly.com – very elegant and this sidesteps the need to keep track of email addresses.
Certain bugs would need fixing first however, such as the Last Modified header issues, mentioned here and here

is this Last Modfieid header issue (i confess, i don’t completely understand it…) still an issue?

Re: Request : subscribe to comment plugin ?
A while back, I found myself in a conversation where somebody cited Textpattern’s lack of comment subscription as evidence that Wordpress is a “far superior” product.

Re: Request : subscribe to comment plugin ?
Yes, I’d agree it’s near the top of the list of Needed Features. As to the “far superior” bit, I think any experienced Txp & Wp user would agree that both have equal strengths and weaknesses. But that argument is a long one that no one is likely to win (and a pointless one, at that).

Re: Request : subscribe to comment plugin ?
Hey — I meant to pique the pride of a PHP-savvy TXP user rather than start an argument.
I don’t speak PHP myself — let me just try to understand the database tables issue. If a plugin like this requires an additional database table for storing e-mail addresses, you’ll need to ask the user to create that database table as a precondition of running the plugin. Surely that isn’t an unreasonable request?
