upm_img_popper: Weird characters being written in Forms and Pages

I have one site I am developing for someone – when I edit a form or a page, I get weird HTML entities being written after pressing “save”.

Like this, on the very first line:

&uot

or:

this as the first character: & and then on the 14th line, this tag is re-written: ;txp:output_form form=“main_menu; /> (note the first < is missing, and the “ after main_menu has been changed)

This occurs quite a bit. I reckon its the server, but don’t know the environment, since I am developing it for a friend. Anyone come across this before?

(Edit: updated discussion topic. -Mary)

Check your plugins, your browser (and it’s plugins/extensions).

Re: upm_img_popper: Weird characters being written in Forms and Pages

Hi Mary, I am using Safari latest beta 3. Plugins are whatever comes with safari.

I will try and use Camino, Firefox and Opera just to check this out. Its a bit strange, I never had a problem with Safari before, but maybe the beta version is different.

Re: upm_img_popper: Weird characters being written in Forms and Pages

Hi Mary,

Yes, it only appears in Safari so far. Not Camino. Any idea why? Yesterday the “&uot” and other characters did appear on the public side, but today they do not.

In safari, if I see a weird character, then without doing anything change page or click another tab, then go back to the page with the strange character, it usually disappears.

In camino, I don’t see any strange characters at all.

??

And disabling any running plugins has no effect?

Re: upm_img_popper: Weird characters being written in Forms and Pages

I have the following plugins, all active, except ob1_googlenav.

I will turn them all off and lets see…bit odd its only Safari beta 3 that is playing up (so far). Will report back after testing…

ako_nav
dru_random_text
ebl_BatchUpload
ob1_googlenav (turned off)
pap_contact_cleaner
upm_image
upm_img_popper
zem_contact_lang
zem_contact_reborn

Re: upm_img_popper: Weird characters being written in Forms and Pages

Hi Mary – I turned off all the plugins, then turned one plugin at a time back on…

Everything looked fine, until I got to – yes – upm_img_popper! Turning that on caused the “&uot” to reappear as the first thing in the archive page. “&ot” appears sometimes too.

If I delete &uot, then &ot appears after the save. Delete &ot, and I get “&” as the first character, and line 14 changed to:

;txp:output_form form=“main_menu; />

?? Only in Safari….

If it is the only plugin running does it happen or is it only when in combination with another plugin? What version of the plugin are you running?

Re: upm_img_popper: Weird characters being written in Forms and Pages

Hi Mary. Version 1.3.4. I see the funny things if upm_img_popper is turned on, but not if its off.

yes, that would include the other plugins running, so I don’t know if its because of a conflict, but I would suggest not, because I run the same plugins on most sites, and always use Safari, and I never saw this before.

Possibly Safari 3 beta causing issues, or the host. Don’t know. Never saw it before!

Oh yes, TXP 4.04.

Re: upm_img_popper: Weird characters being written in Forms and Pages

I can’t think of why though, since my plugin doesn’t even run on anything but the article page. That’s one thing you could check: is the plugin’s JavaScript appearing in the source of any page but the Write tab?

Hopefully I’ll be able to figure it out, since I don’t have access to Safari.

Re: upm_img_popper: Weird characters being written in Forms and Pages

Mary, personally, I don’t think its img_popper. Why would it be? I think its a coincidence.

No, the plugin’s JS does not appear in any pages except the write/edit page. As far as I can see.

BTW – its forms and pages. Mostly pages affected. Maybe the host?

Re: upm_img_popper: Weird characters being written in Forms and Pages

hello, are you using safri 3?
I noticed on my installation that safari 3 tends to insert certain characters inside my text areas. link the &, for instance.
that makes a lot of trouble if you update your forms or the such; all of a sudden in front of your form there’s something you haven’t put there.
dunno if it’s a matter of charset or similar.

what was that again…?
