How do I get variables from URLs?

Hi, how can I retrieve variables passed from the URL ?

I’m trying to run some queries on the database but I need to pass some letters as $_GET variables to retrieve some data.

How is this done?

Are there links to articles that explain this?

You could either use a plugin, chs_if_url_var, or otherwise learn from its code.
