craft business website -- any suggestions appreciated

Hi, this is my first effort using Textpattern or any CMS for that matter. It’s so much nicer than coding HTML manually.

www.fenderloft.com

The design is based on the Orangescale Profilo template set. It was very beneficial to me starting with a well designed template so I could get an understanding of how Textpattern works, though I’ve still got lots to learn.

Please let me know what you like or don’t like, how I can improve it, etc. As you can see, it is not an e-commerce site, yet.

Thank you very much,
Mike

Clean… although I’m not sure about the background image.

Re: craft business website -- any suggestions appreciated

Thanks colak, yes I have mixed feelings about the background. My product has a distinct rope pattern and so I thought it was an opportunity for the background picture to speak a thousand words, that is, show a close up view of the knotwork without any verbal description.

I’m experimenting with my test site. I removed the top/bottom 30pt margin, so the white text area extends to the top, and this does seem to help reduce the clutter somewhat. Again, thanks for your input!

I presume the background knots are instantly recognizable by your audience? They look OK to me. It’s the main image I am not sure about – too much black. I’d probably try and find something to replace the black, perhaps another rope background. But I am not the greatest with graphics. Otherwise, clean and clear and I like it.

Hi Peter, yes the fenders will appeal to a specific market who I expect will recognize the background knotwork. Thanks for your comment on the banner image — it’s a “random” photo, but at the moment I have only two and that one in particular is of questionable quality. Over the summer months, I’ll be asking customers for photo opportunities so I can build a selection of pics of our products in action on their boats.

Glad the site appealed to you, thanks again.
