Photoshop/Fireworks/Dreamweaver Slicing --> Textpattern

so i’m familiar with what is becoming an old school way of developing sites where you design a mockup in Photoshop and then basically slice it up and import it into Dreamweaver. I believe this method is basically a table-based design. I’m wondering if there’s any use for this in developing a textpattern site? Is it basically only good for graphical nav bars or can you do more integration of this style into a real CSS site like textpattern. I ask cause this method is very easy for getting your layouts down to how you want them.
