Newbie Question Site w/ Static Frontpage
I’ve just begun to use Textpattern and so far I really like it’s ease of use and the layout and structure. For the sites I’m creating, I’d like to use it more as a CMS than a blog. For my first attempt at TXP I used a site that I had previously created as a static HTML site. I played around and got it to behave and look the way it had as a static site. I’m still trying to get my head around the TXP manner of doing things.
So my question is, what is the best way to create a static frontpage? I used the Default section and created a Page called “home_page” (in fact, I created a separate Page for each Section and used Forms for the “header,” “sidebar,” “content,” etc.). I then created an article with the frontpages’s content, and a Form for the homepage’s content (so I could call it in the “home_page” Page) using the following tags: <div id="content"><txp:article id="5" form="static_article" /></div>
.
Is this close to a good workflow? If future sites are more complex and have more articles, etc., is this a good way of working? I feel limited by TXP’s default frontpage, maybe I don’t need to. I guess I just need to be pushed in the right direction.
Thanks in advance.
