Visitors sign up for auto notification when new article is posted?

My mom’s site features a section for coming events, and the software she currently uses to post events has a newsletter signup attached that automatically sends out the events by email to anyone who joins the list. I’m moving her entire site over to textpattern and we will no longer be using the old software, but I’d like to keep that functionality if possible. Is there a way to have people sign themselves up for a notification list, and then have textpattern automatically send email when a new article is posted to the Events section? Ideally the whole article would be mailed, not just a note saying that there was a new event, requiring them to visit the site to see what it was.

So, is this a feature that textpattern (or a plugin) supports?

And will that let people subscribe by section/category? We don’t want mail going out for everything, ONLY for event postings

I don’t see a way to let people subscribe to a section/category, and I was hoping maybe to get that question answered before I read 16 pages of forum thread about the plugin in general?
