Pre-flight check: message about wget

On the diagnostics page I get this warning in the pre-flight check:
The following PHP functions (which may be necessary to run Textpattern) are disabled on your server: wget

I don’t notice anything not working, so am guessing this is not affecting my textpattern site, but am wondering if I should chase this up with my hosting co.
Is anyone able to say what wget would be used for in textpattern?

Textpattern doesn’t use wget and the majority (if not all) of plugins won’t need it either.
