Generico A flexible Template port for TXP

What is it?

This is a Template Port, based on Andrew Krespanis “Proof of concept” Presentation Generico-Site in an hour
The demonstration Site is available here

This Layout concept is different then a pure percentage based layout, as it is a cross between an em and percentage approach.

To really understand, what is going on you have to do two things ( If you spot any display bugs, please report them )

  • Risize your Browser window (dragging the handle)
  • Change your font-size ( cmd +/- MAC/OS and crl +/- on windows platforms for Browsers that support it )

The Aim of this project was to build up a base Template set that can be further configured and customized.
It integrates the following features:

  • Atom Feed headline content of third party Sites with the help of Bit Santos bit_rss plugin ( You can see this working on the Technews Section )
  • Integration of the Zem_contact Api and the Postmaster functionality ( developped by Ben Bruce )
  • Rating Feature with the tcm_rating plugin
  • Fully working and styled commenting features.
  • Proper active states for the main navigation menu through Christophe Beyls cbs_navigation_menu plugin.

( Thanks to Christophe also for integrating this feature into the last version of the plugin )

The Template Package will be made available at the Textgarden Resources Site under a Creative Commons License.

I’ve done some basic Browser testing on mainstream Browsers and saw a couple of minor display Bugs on IE-6 so far.
Legacy Browsers like Opera 6,7 seemed to play well with it.
Firefox 1.5./win32 doesn’t understand the min-max script.

Note.: The commenting, contact and subsription features are functional for testing-purposes, so you can go actually and try them out.

Comments, suggestions are welcome.

regards, marios

Re: Generico A flexible Template port for TXP

“Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_RETURN in /users/home/venturas/public_html/generico/textpattern/lib/txplib_misc.php(512) : eval()’d code on line 781
The above errors were caused by the plugin:Postmaster”

I’m afraid that it’s horribly broken in Firefox. Looks OK in IE7, though.

That was only for 2 minutes.( I made a small modification to the postmaster plugin, so that if a Subscriber follows an unsubscription link, he doesn’t see the word deleted on the Unsubscriptiton page .)

Should work now.

Does it still look broken on Firefox ?

Re: Generico A flexible Template port for TXP

@netcarver, I checked again, besides the min-max script problem ( which would only occour at very small font-sizes ) I consider this as working from firefox versions 1.5.0 and up.

I’ve decided to make this available before Christmas, under a CC License, that would allow you to use this however you like.
( For those who only have time during the Christmas hollidays )

This will take me at least 24 hours, since I havn’t been able to do any work today.
I had to clean up the office, which was in state of total decay.

Stay tuned, and merry Christmas.

regards, marios

Re: Generico A flexible Template port for TXP

Just downloaded it, a lot to take in, will need a few days to absorb.

I guess you zip it up on a Mac, why does it include the _MACOSX directory and the .DS_Store files?

Merry Xmas :)

Re: Generico A flexible Template port for TXP

@hcgtv, that is because of network allocated storage.
(Thanks, for letting me know)

I should really start now, to organize my files in a SVN Repository.

You can throw the download away, and try again at the same article downloadlink.
I replaced the file with the correct archive.

Sorry for that.

regards, marios

That’s good to know cause I’ve seen files like that in other archives before, never knew what they were or if they were necessary.

One day I’ll get a Mac, whenever I come across a good deal on a used one. That way I can see how the other side lives ;)
