The trouble of addiction starts once the end has disappeared
Here’s a short excerpt from a php thesis by by Jorg Muller I read recently which I think that it might be of interest here
The trouble of addiction starts once the end has disappeared. Same with programming – you simply don’t know when you are finished, when to stop. … What really counts is elegance and simplicity, to compress the most stunning complexity into as fewest lines of code as possible. Here as elsewhere, the dream is absolute memory, the formula that would contain it all. Even if it stretches across thousands of lines of code, a program once “finished” has to be re-done. It can be optimized, not only in its performance for the end-user but in its “pureness” on the level of code.
