All Sections are following the page specified for Default rather than

All Sections are following the page specified for Default rather than the page and style that is defined for them on Presentation> Sections.

I have 3 sections on Presentation>Sections – call them section Default, A and B.

I also have 3 pages on Presentation> Pages, by the same names (Default, A and B).

I write an article. I would like it to use Section A, and select the appropriate box on the Content >Articles page. Section A is defined to use Page A.

But instead of using Page A, It is using the default page, which is the page specified for the Default Section (same goes for the other pages. )

On Presentation> Sections, (where I have the Sections Default, A and B). The Default section is using the Default page. I change the Default section to use page A.

Now, all of my pages are using page A. I change the Default section to use page B, and all of my sections are now using page B, even though they are supposed to be using their own pages.

Basically, all of the Sections on my Sections page are ignoring whatever page they are told to use, and using the Default section’s specifications.

What could be the cause of this?

Thanks.

Re: All Sections are following the page specified for Default rather than

Are you by chance using a permanent link mode without /section/ in it? It’s possible that the section is not recognized then. If so, try if switching to another permanent link mode helps.

To elaborate on what Els mentioned: are you using the /title permalink?

Re: All Sections are following the page specified for Default rather than

Hi Mary and Els,

Thanks for the quick response.

I went to Admin > Preferences and tried changing the Permanent Link mode to each one of the options and refreshing my pages, but they are still running one whatever page and style I specify for the Default section.

Anything else I could try?

Thanks!

Clean URL test failed.

You need to switch to Messy URL mode. FAQ.

Re: All Sections are following the page specified for Default rather than

I switched to messy url mode in Admin > Preferences, but no change . I added an htaccess file, then I followed the instructions on
http://textpattern.com/faq/66/404-error-when-linking-to-article-pages and uncommented the first 3 items, but still no change.

Just to couble check, for the part that says Rewrte base, should i be using the path to my folder, as in

RewriteBase /nameoffolder/ , or a complete url?

I have godaddy, but I have used textpattern with godaddy before and didn’t experience this problem. I will post my diagnostics again with my changes. Thanks.

Can you show us a link to a page that is broken please? Your site appears to be working now in messy mode.

Re: All Sections are following the page specified for Default rather than

Hi Zem,

The home page is correct, it is using the Default page and default style.

But http://lauramarieonline.com/tcp/?c=Credit-Report-Information should be using the page titled ‘Custom’, and is instead using the Default page.

Also, http://lauramarieonline.com/tcp/?c=Link-List should be using the page titled ‘Listonly’ and is following the Default page instead.

Every page of my site seems to be following whatever page I specify for the Default section (on Presentation> Sections).

I have them following the correct sections in Content > Articles, and have defined the correct pages in Presentation> Sections.

I typed the name of each page in the footer section of the html so I would not get confused when trying to debug. So at the bottom, each page says ‘Default’ when it should be the page that it was assigned.

Thanks.

Re: All Sections are following the page specified for Default rather than

I think you’re confusing sections with categories. Both of those pages should be using the same page template, because they’re in the same section.
