You do not need OpenID-support in Textpattern to use that. You simply need an OpenID-Account, which you can get in several places (and still use your own URI as an identifier).

In any case, KurtRaschke has done some (or a lot of) work in that area:

Last I talked with Kurt (March’06) he was waiting for Specifications for OpenID/Yadis to stabilize before putting more effort into it. I think that if the problem can be adequately solved with a plugin, this does not need to in as core. Especially given that OpenID is a rather tricky concept to explain to new users, and will probably be not used by many people.
