Preferences tab sub sections
When testing different revisions, I’m always clicking everywhere in the admin area to make sure things are working like they should from rev to rev.
The Preferences tab always gives me fits cause the headings change depending on where you’re at. Wouldn’t it be simpler to just list the different pages like so:
Site Preferences Advanced Preferences Manage Languages
No Matter what page you’re on, seems less confusing and faster in operation.

Yes, with tabs similar to the ones on the top two rows. The write tab also uses such tabs (only vertical).

I like the idea of having all three options, with the active option appearing different and non-linked, but I’m not in favor of tabs the same as the main tabs. Some visual distinction wouldn’t hurt.

Nice.
Might look even better if those three links are centered in the table, so they don’t move horizontally when switching to a different preference tab.
I’d also remove the <code><H1></code> just above the tabs (no longer needed, because the active tab is shown now) and perhaps even change the wording of tabs to: ‘website’ | ‘advanced’ | ‘language’, to avoid using the word ‘preferences’ so much.

What about giving all the tables a width of 550px.
This would prevent a “jumping” layout.

Better now.
How about giving those tables a different ID (allows for different styling).
The fixed width idea is good, imho (a bit more than 550px, though, for users with a need for larger font-sizes).
The h1 has become redundant now.
The .navlink-active might be styled as font-weight:bold for additional visual distinction.
And centered, yeah (something I already had implemented for my own use, had forgotten how it was on the defaults).
Where is that emoji for a solar powered submarine when you need it ?

Might it be a good idea to, instead of using pixel based widths, use a percentage? I think that would lend its self to more usability (especially, as Philippe said, for the users that need a larger font size).
