Hiearchical Section+Category Listings

I’m trying to use TXP as a basic CMS for a client. There are five main sections, which we’ll call A through E, accordingly.

Beneath each section there are articles organized by category, like so:

.Section A
..Category 1
…Article 1
…Article 2
…Article 3
..Category 2
…Article 4
…Article 5

This itself wouldn’t be too difficult, but the problem is my client also needs to be able to place articles directly into sections without categorizing them at all, like so:

.Section A
..Category 1
…Article 1
…Article 2
…Article 3
..Category 2
…Article 4
…Article 5
..Article 6
..Article 7

This is further complicated by the need for the body and sidebar sections to display specific content depending on what the user is doing. If a user clicks on a section, the user needs to end up at a landing page (article) for that section. The sidebar then needs to list off the categories used by that section (meaning, categories that contain articles that are in the specific section). If the user clicks on a category, the user needs to end up at another landing page specific to that category and section. Here the sidebar now needs to list off the categories as before, with a list of articles specific to this category and section.

The landing pages are needed because this basically a product information web site, and the client does not simply want lists of products (articles) ending up in the main body content.

In essence, what I’ve described is fairly standard nested-category navigation. Unfortunately, I’m having quite a bit of trouble pulling this off. If anyone has any advice, I’d be greatly appreciative. I’ve searched through the forums and looked at several plugins, but none of them seem to quite encompass what I’m trying to accomplish.
