Strange problems: stylesheet not loading consistently
Since April 1st, www.weknowrap.com is online. Back then, we tested it back and forth, and everything seemed fine. Now, some users (two, to be exact) are reporting a very strange error. They tell me that “sometimes” the stylesheet is not loading. The one guy says that it’s not loading in 3 of 5 times he visits the site, the other guy (one of my editors) says it happens to him once or twice a month. Reloading the page ususally solves the problem. Both claim that this sort of thing never happens to them on any other site. Both say that it doesn’t matter wether they use Firefox or Internet Explorer 6. Both are using Windows XP.
Not that this is a big problem for me, but I wanted to ask if it could be something textpattern related or if anyone else ever experienced this kind of issues. Could it be a problem that the stylesheet is stored in the db and there is a problem on the mysql server side? The server is running lighttpd.

I don’t think it is an TXP problem.
I’ve seen the FOUC phenomenon at many Sites, even on mezzoblue.com I’d get it from time to time on some pages.
Sometimes I’d get to see it only If I view a specific Site from an Internet Cafe, while the same Site displays fine form
my place.
One could place the style sheet straight on the Server.

In the head of your template, try adding this right before the link to your stylesheet:
<code>
<script type=“text/javascript” language=“JavaScript”></script>
</code>
If this is caused by Ye Olde “Flash Of Unstyled Content,” an empty script tag preceding the style link should make it go away.

i’m not sure if this is the FOUC problem because it isnt a flash, it’s more like the page completely loads without any styles applied and stays like that (ugly) until reload. (at least thats how these users are reporting the problem)

Look into the lighttpd error logs, do you see any 500 errors? If the webserver is working hard, and/or there are too few php child processes, then some requests might get “dropped” creating a 500 error. Though I admit it would be an odd problem if that only happened to stylesheets, and never to the other textpattern-pages.
2 other potential sources of your problem come to my mind:
a) you have some kind of referrer blocking against spam, which sometimes accidently blocks your own pages. This has been observed several times, when mod_securit rulesets were too strict.

You should find out: are they visiting specific pages when this happens? That may help you track down the cause.
