Two questions

Hi to you all,

Two thinks puzzle me:
  • how do page links in my log file get bold? What do viewers of my site do?
  • Does TxP search comments?

Thanks in advance!

Marcel

About the comments: is it on a wish list somewhere?

They post a comment.

Re: Two questions

@ wet: If that was the case, I should have much more comments! So it’s something else….?

Re: Two questions

In detail:

Log entries are bold whenever a POST request is logged. POST requests commonly occur on two occassions:

  1. a visitor previews a comment, host replies with a preview and a status code 302 (redirect temporarily)
  2. a visitor submits a comment, host replies a “Thanks for your comment” message and a status code 200 (ok)

A successful comment thus produces two bold log entries (with full logs enabled):

<strong><code>06 Sep 2006 12:48:36 PM XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX request/uri/here POST 302</code></strong>
06 Sep 2006 12:48:36 PM XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX request/uri/here?commented=1 GET 200
<strong><code>06 Sep 2006 12:48:13 PM XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX request/uri/here POST 200</code></strong>
06 Sep 2006 12:47:53 PM XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX request/uri/here GET 200

So, if you receive less comments than the bold entries would suggest, it is attributable to the fact that a larger part of your visitors decides – after having previewed his comment – that his essay on the advantages of viagra, cialis and cheap mortgage does not exactly fit the theme of your site. And then leaves silently, thank God.

Re: Two questions

@Wet: thanks for the clear explanation!!

And by the way, what do you know on the issue of the search function in TxP not searching comments? Is that planned somewhere on a roadmap?

Thanks!!

Re: Two questions

zeeforel,

There was a recent thread on searching excerpts here and that appears to be possible, so I can’t see why comments couldn’t be searched.

You should start a thread in the Plugin Requests section… I would like to see an option for checkboxes, like:

[SEARCH BOX]
[ ] Search Comments
[ ] Search Excerpts

Re: Two questions

Beate Paland posted a patch to make Textpattern search through custom fields. This could be useful as a launch pad for a plugin.
