idiot question.... re SQL

I have played with ASP a few times and have built a few forums in the past but dont know SQL at all, nor how to create it.
Obvious next question, how do i create an SQL database for Textpattern to link to and what do i populate it with?

Does text pattern just SQL to start recording information then saves it to a blank DB, i am missing something fundamental here.

Any help really welcome, also and abuse for being incredibly thick…

Re: idiot question.... re SQL

During the installation/setup steps, Textpattern will create the tables it needs and those will be filled by Textpattern once you start creating articles, categories, uploading images etc.
The only thing you may have to do in advance is create a database (if it doesn’t exist yet) and create a user account in MySQL that has access to that database. Your webhost often has some tool (web-based) to help you do this.

Re: idiot question.... re SQL

The procedure for creating a MySQL user and password varies depending on your server. You’ll need to consult the documentation provided by your hosting company.

You don’t need to populate it with anything, just create a database and user, then run the Textpattern installer. The detailed instructions are step-by-step.

I have stalled learning databases for a long time, this maybe the opportuntiy to spend some time on it…

My webspace is ASP and perl enabled but i have no localhost ability as yet… Looking forward to playing around with it. thanks
